B

Score breakdown

Parts Availability 85
Schematic Access 85
Repairability 70
OEM Pricing 65
Software Freedom 95

Why this grade

Festool sells spare parts directly to end users (festoolusa.com spare-parts e-shop), provides an online parts catalog (EKAT) and exploded diagrams with each tool, and guarantees spare-parts availability for at least 10 years after discontinuation. No software locks. Repair-friendliness is dragged down because Festool steers all repairs to authorized service centers and states that unauthorized repair attempts void guarantee/warranty; OEM pricing is the weakest dimension given premium European manufacturing and original-parts-only policy (track saws ~$700-800 vs ~$400-500 competitors).

Methodology & version

Five dimensions — parts availability, schematic access, repairability, OEM pricing, and software freedom — are scored 0–100 and weighted equally; the letter grade is the average (A 90–100, B 80–89, C 70–79, D 60–69, F below 60). This assessment is current as of 6/9/2026 and cites its sources below. It covers the Power tools category and is not a claim about every device the maker ships.
