Score breakdown
Why this grade
GE publishes free owner manuals plus per-model parts diagrams and parts lists online and runs a large genuine-parts network, which makes basic DIY repair accessible. The drag is pro-level documentation cost — the PIRG/iFixit report cited $919 just for GE's SmartHQ technical access — and Profile/Café smart appliances (2022–2023) introduced software-dependent diagnostics whose behavior is not fully documented in service manuals. Standard residential lines are highly serviceable; smart lines are where it slips.
Methodology & version
Five dimensions — parts availability, schematic access, repairability, OEM pricing, and software freedom — are scored 0–100 and weighted equally; the letter grade is the average (A 90–100, B 80–89, C 70–79, D 60–69, F below 60). This assessment is current as of 6/9/2026 and cites its sources below. It covers the Large appliances category and is not a claim about every device the maker ships.
