Score breakdown
Why this grade
HMD runs an official 'QuickFix' self-repair program in partnership with iFixit, supplying genuine parts and step-by-step guides (battery, screen, charge port, cover) for supported models (Pulse, G22, G42, Fusion, Skyline) across the US, EU, UK and Australia; repairs with genuine iFixit parts/guides keep the manufacturer warranty. The HMD Skyline introduced a screw-driven opening mechanism and the G22/G42 are explicitly designed for at-home repair with budget-friendly fix kits and little parts-pairing. Limited model coverage, variable budget builds, no published board schematics, and no single iFixit numeric score keep it to a D with medium confidence.
Methodology & version
Five dimensions — parts availability, schematic access, repairability, OEM pricing, and software freedom — are scored 0–100 and weighted equally; the letter grade is the average (A 90–100, B 80–89, C 70–79, D 60–69, F below 60). This assessment is current as of 6/9/2026 and cites its sources below. It covers the Smartphones category and is not a claim about every device the maker ships.
