Why this grade

PIRG's 2026 EPREL scorecard rates Motorola the most repairable smartphone brand (B+), citing the most-improved ease of disassembly. Motorola was the first major OEM to partner with iFixit for genuine parts and now also uses MobileSentrix as a parts distributor; service manuals with tool lists are available and DIY repairs with genuine parts keep the warranty. Budget builds keep parts pricing reasonable and little parts-pairing is reported. No exact recent iFixit numeric score was available to anchor repair-friendliness, so this is held conservatively to a high-D despite PIRG's B+ — hence medium confidence; PIRG ranks it best of the four majors.

Methodology & version

Five dimensions — parts availability, schematic access, repairability, OEM pricing, and software freedom — are scored 0–100 and weighted equally; the letter grade is the average (A 90–100, B 80–89, C 70–79, D 60–69, F below 60). This assessment is current as of 6/9/2026 and cites its sources below. It covers the Smartphones category and is not a claim about every device the maker ships.
