An unbroken electrical path through which current can flow.

Why it matters

Continuity testing quickly finds broken traces, blown fuses, and disconnected cables without powering the device.

Technical detail

A continuity test applies a small test signal and indicates whether resistance between two points is low enough to represent a connected path.

Examples

  • A multimeter beep across a fuse indicates that its path is intact.
